Solar Security Light Questions, Answered

Learn how Insert Solar Lights install, charge, detect motion, handle weather, and help homeowners add outdoor security lighting without tools, wiring, or roof holes.

Installation

How long does installation take? +

Installation typically takes less than 5 minutes per light. Simply clip the light onto your gutter, adjust the solar panel to face the sun, and you're done. No tools, wiring, or electrical work required.

What type of gutters are compatible? +

Our lights fit standard K-style and half-round residential gutters, which cover most homes in North America. The adjustable clip system accommodates slight variations in gutter size and shape.

Do I need to drill holes in my house? +

No drilling required. Our gutter mount allows for completely tool-free installation. This means no damage to your home and easy repositioning if needed.

Can I install these myself or do I need an electrician? +

You can definitely install these yourself. Since they are completely solar-powered with no wiring required, there's no need for an electrician. Anyone can install them safely in minutes.

How do I position the solar panel for best results? +

Point the solar panel toward the direction that receives the most direct sunlight during the day, typically south-facing in the Northern Hemisphere. The panel is adjustable, allowing you to optimize the angle for maximum sun exposure.

Product Performance

How bright are these lights? +

Our lights produce 1000 lumens of bright white light, which is comparable to a 75-watt incandescent bulb. This provides excellent illumination for security and lighting pathways.

How long do the lights stay on when motion is detected? +

The lights automatically turn on when motion is detected and stay illuminated for approximately 30 seconds. If motion continues to be detected, they will remain on.

What is the motion detection range? +

The PIR motion sensor has a 120–180° adjustable detection range and can sense movement up to 26 feet away. This wide coverage helps provide comprehensive security coverage.

Do they work on cloudy days? +

Yes. While direct sunlight charges the battery fastest, the solar panel will still charge on cloudy days, though it may take longer. A full charge provides operation based on usage and how often the motion sensor is triggered.

How do the lights know when to turn on? +

The lights feature a built-in dusk-to-dawn sensor that automatically activates motion detection mode when it gets dark. During daylight, the light stays off and the solar panel charges the battery.

Durability & Weather

Are these lights weatherproof? +

Yes. Our lights have an IP65 water resistance rating, meaning they are protected against rain, snow, and dust. They are designed to withstand everyday outdoor weather conditions.

What temperature range can these lights operate in? +

These lights are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C), making them suitable for use in many climates.

Will high winds knock these lights off the gutter? +

No. The secure clip system is designed to withstand high winds. Many customers report that their lights have stayed in place through storms and heavy winds without any issues.

How long do these lights last? +

The LED bulbs are rated for 50,000+ hours of use, and the lithium-ion battery is designed to last for years with proper solar charging. The durable ABS plastic housing supports long-term outdoor durability.

Battery & Solar Charging

What type of battery is used? +

The light uses a 3.7V 2200mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which provides reliable performance and longevity. The battery is designed to hold a charge even during extended cloudy periods.

How long does it take to fully charge? +

For the initial charge, 2–3 days in direct sunlight is recommended. After that, it takes approximately 6–8 hours to fully charge the battery. Once charged, runtime depends on how frequently the motion sensor is triggered.

Can I replace the battery? +

The lithium-ion battery is not replaceable.

Do I need to turn the light on or off manually? +

Before installation, turn the light on using the power button on the backside of the motion sensor “bubble.” Setting one provides motion-activated 1000 lumen light for 20 seconds. Setting two keeps the light on all night at 300 lumens, then increases to 1000 lumens for 20 seconds when motion is detected. Once the setting is in place, there is no need to turn the light on and off regularly.

General Questions

How many lights do I need for my home? +

This depends on the size of your home and the areas you want to illuminate. Most customers install 2–4 lights to cover key areas like the front entrance, driveway, backyard, and side yard. Each light has a wide coverage area thanks to the three adjustable heads.

Can these lights be used for purposes other than security? +

Absolutely. While they work well as security lights, many customers use them for pathway lighting, garage illumination, shed lighting, and general outdoor convenience lighting. The motion activation makes them helpful anywhere you need automatic lighting.

Are these lights suitable for commercial properties? +

Yes. These lights are great for small commercial properties, rental units, and businesses that want to add security lighting without the cost and complexity of wired installations.

Can I adjust the brightness level? +

Yes. Locate the power button on the backside of the motion sensor “bubble.” Setting one provides motion-activated 1000 lumen light that stays on for 20 seconds. Setting two provides constant 300-lumen light all night, then increases to 1000 lumens when motion is detected.

Will these lights work in shaded areas? +

The lights will work, but performance depends on the solar panel receiving adequate sunlight to charge. If the area is heavily shaded, consider positioning the light where the solar panel can receive at least 4–6 hours of direct or indirect sunlight daily.
